Robinson Family Undercover Secret Agents
Performer and theatre maker Ian Nulty has created a fake identity.
'there is nothing worse than prophecy, than self fulfilling prophecy '
This piece of theatre stems from a discussion Ian was involved in on facebook in 2010 with a group created to stop the ground zero mosque in New York.
After arguing with a woman from North Carolina that he believed there was little difference between Christian fundamentalist and Muslim fundamentalists, the woman became enraged, directed him to end time websites, and changed her name to Liberty Belle before blocking him.
Intrigued, Ian decided to become one of these people online and find out more about their community. His new online identity was Robert Robinson a married man with two children from North Dakota, bar owner with elderly parents....
First performed at Arches live September 2012 http://www.thearches.co.uk/events/arts/ian-nulty-robinson-family-undercover-secret-agents

The Sauna Persona
Ian introduced 'The Sauna Persona' for the Frock on Frock off festival as part of Glasgay 2012.
'The Sauna Persona' is an interactive installation that looks at the codes and conduct of cruising and Gay sauna etiquette and 'the sauna persona' would be visible throughout the venue and bar for one night only.
The aim of this performance is to depict life for the excluded as the excluder. 'The sauna persona' will only to talk to those that he wants to.
I looked into the culture that has evolved and continues within Gay saunas in the UK and Europe, I examined the codes, perceived codes and etiquette around negotiating sex and the social aspects of sauna life. How early saunas emulated cruising and cottaging and brought it indoors with soft furnishings to today's plush wipe clean multi functioning experience. The currency of the sauna is not the clothes, everyone wears the same towel, the currency is the body. I noticed that even the wealthy with in this sub culture had to deal with rejection, This inspired me to bring this work out into the open so to compare the similarities of life out in the real world.
This project was an experiment, where the audience member had to find me. They had to find eye contact with myself in the crowd and cruise me to get a one on one performance in the disabled toilet.
